Mixed Masala - Annual Family Potluck Picnic - Coming up!

Hi MM Friends!
Hope you are all enjoying summer in full swing!
Thanks to the NYC Parks Commission, we have a new date for our annual Mixed Masala Family Potluck Picnic:
DATE: Sunday August 3rd, from 1-5pm
Location: The Tennis House in Prospect Park

This has typically been Mixed Masala's most well-attended event, and we expect a great group again this year!
We are planning for a fun afternoon in the park, and encourage you to bring your family, friends and something tasty to share. There will be kids activities and games too!
Don't forget to RSVP on the event page so we know how many people to expect, and what you're planning to bring. (No idea what to bring? Check out this potluck picnic recipe list for ideas!)

Mid-June Mixed Masala Update: 6/18



Summer has gotten off to a rip roaring start, and the Mixed Masala 2014 Holi event on May 31 was a wonderful success! Thanks to all the participants and organizers who made the event so much fun. And did you take photos? Please share those photos and videos with us, on Mixed Masala! Email them to mixedmasala@live.com, and we'll post them up in our 2014 Holi photo album.

This weekend 6/21 - get your groove on with Red Baraat in Grand Army Plaza!
As part of the Make Music New York one-day music festival, NPR has asked Sunny Jain (drummer, composer and founder of Red Baraat) to create a new work called 100+ BPM. Amateur musicians and professionals are invited to join him at Grand Army Plaza, Saturday at 4:30pm for a giant group performance!

Join Mixed Masala for a 'Girls Night Out' hangout next week !
Next Week, we are hosting a girls-night-out chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones, while enjoying the beautiful Brooklyn sunset. Be sure to RSVP on the site, and let us know what you'll bring in the comments.



Save the date 7/19 for the Mixed Masala Mid-Summer Potluck Picnic!
Mark your calendars for July 19 in Prospect Park, at the Picnic House. We'll be getting together with the whole group and enjoying a gorgeous day in the park. It's a potluck afternoon, with games and activities for the kids. If you have great ideas for the event, please volunteer in the comments section!
We hope that everyone tries to stay cool through this heat wave. As always, let us know if you have any suggestions for upcoming events and improvements to the site!

Last Shout Out for HOLI 2014: Mixed Masala Style‏

Hi everyone - one final shout-out for our upcoming Holi 2014 event.  If you are interested in attending, please respond directly in the event page and confirm your attendance with payment to our treasurer Amrita.  Our style Holi is a fun afternoon in the park with an arts and craft events, some get to know you activities - can't be shy both kids and adults, Holi snacks, and ending  with a dancer.  We also need some volunteers to help set-up, including carrying water-filled buckets from 9th street to the event site, folding tables and other assorted items...and then for clean-up.  In between lots of Holi fun.  

Activities: Music, Bandana painting, henna, temporary tattoo-ing,  get-to-know one another games, colored water play with foam based water splashers, toddler water table, special dancer
Food: Assortment of Holi snacks and water provided
BYO: Other food to share, picnic blankets, and additional water play toys
Volunteers required for:  Providing folding tables/chairs for the day, carrying supplies to park, help with activities during the day, clean-up and more...contact any of the planners
Mixed Masala does not charge annual membership fees. We do have the annual expense of paying for this Ning site and other residual expenses for running events. If you'd like to put in a few $ extra for this that would be greatly appreciated.

NEEDED RIGHT AWAY: Casting the LEAD role for the upcoming Hollywood film "GOOD OL' BOY" starring Jason Lee ("My Name Is Earl"), Brighton Sharbino("The Walking Dead") & Anjul Nigam ("Bad Words"). Shoots in New York, starting in less than a month.
Genre: Family Film, Coming-of-Age, Feel-Good Comedy.

The role is of "Smith", a 10-12 year-old South Asian boy to play Anjul Nigam's son (see picture: http://imdb.to/Q44a9A).
Must be handsome, charismatic, innocent with a sense of bewilderment & have the ability to express a vast range of emotions. The whole film revolves around the role of "Smith".

Summer is here... finally! Which means a multitude of fun, outdoor family events and festivals.... Including a few that spotlight talented local South Asian entrepreneurs!
